Privacy Policy
This policy describes what information Tied Notes collects, how it is used, and how to request a copy of your data or delete your account.
Tied Notes provides informational relationship coaching and journaling tools. It is not therapy, medical care, or professional mediation, and it is not an AI companion, virtual partner, dating marketplace, matchmaking service, or social discovery network.

On this website: when you join the mailing list, we receive your email address and use it only to send you news about Tied Notes. The signup form is handled by our email provider (Buttondown), which processes the address on our behalf. Nothing else is collected by the site itself.
We do not collect advertising identifiers (including IDFA), and we do not track you across apps or websites for advertising.
2. How We Use Data
- Memory management — propose memory candidates from conversations you submit; persist only memories you approve; let you edit or delete them
- Personalized guidance — reminders, relationship assessments, and message drafts for your review before you send anything
- Service reliability — error monitoring and performance diagnostics (when enabled)
- Subscriptions — verify purchase entitlements for paid features
We do not sell or share your personal information. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, we do not sell personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration in the ordinary advertising sense, and we do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Disclosures to service providers that process data to operate the service (for example our AI provider after you grant AI permission, or RevenueCat for subscriptions) are described in §3 and are not the same as selling or sharing for advertising.
Sensitive details like financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, or precise location are never needed to use Tied Notes, so please keep them out of your conversations.
2.1 Memory Approval (your control)
When our AI suggests a fact or note about a relationship partner, the app shows you a candidate for approval. We store that item as a lasting memory only if you approve it. If you reject or dismiss the candidate, it is not saved as a lasting memory.
Memories are organized per relationship partner, so context for one partner is not mixed with another.
2.2 Sensitive details in your journal
A relationship journal naturally holds personal things: the state of a relationship, intimate moments, how people are feeling. When such details enter Tied Notes, they are treated like the rest of your journal content: stored for you and processed only to provide the features you use. We do not use your journal to train AI models, and sensitive memories are used only in the contexts you approve.
2.3 Health-related information
A journal about relationships can include details that some state laws, for example Washington’s My Health My Data Act, treat as “consumer health data”, such as notes about mental or emotional states. If such details enter Tied Notes, they are handled like the rest of your journal content: stored for you, not sold, not shared for advertising, and deletable by you. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over this data; contact [email protected] to exercise them.
3. Third-Party Processors
| Provider | Purpose | Data processed |
|---|---|---|
| Third-party AI provider | AI chat, extraction, and coaching (US region) | Conversation text, prompts, and related content needed to generate replies and candidates. The provider processes this data only to provide the AI features to us, under its then-current terms and privacy policies, including as to training, retention, and subprocessors. |
| RevenueCat | In-app purchase and subscription management (Apple IAP) | App user identifiers used for entitlements, purchase receipts and transaction metadata, entitlement state |
| Sentry (if enabled) | Crash and error reporting | Device and app metadata, stack traces, coarse session context. Reporting is configured so chat message bodies are not intended to be included by default. If diagnostics are disabled, this processor is not used. |
| Apple / Google | Authentication | Account tokens and identifiers, per their policies |
What we require of our providers:
- process data only to provide the service to us
- never use it for advertising, and never sell it
- handle anything beyond that, including training and retention, under its own then-current terms
3.1 Explicit consent for third-party AI
Before your messages, relationship notes, or memory snippets are sent to our third-party AI provider for the first time, the app asks for your explicit permission. The in-app screen names the provider currently in use, describes the data categories that may be sent, and explains that the data is used to generate replies, coaching guidance, and memory candidates. You can revoke this permission anytime under Me → Preferences → AI data sharing. After revocation, new AI requests that would send that data to the provider are blocked until you allow again. This AI permission is separate from accepting this Privacy Policy or the Terms of Service.
4. Data Security
- HTTPS in transit for all API traffic
- Refresh tokens stored as hashes, not plaintext
- Database access restricted to application services
5. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Request a copy of your data — email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.
- Delete account — Me → Preferences → Account & data → Delete account (shortcut: Me → Trust & account → Delete account)
- Edit or delete memories — in-app memory management
- Withdraw AI consent — Me → Preferences → AI data sharing
- Stop using the app — to halt new collection tied to active use
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law (for example access, correction, deletion, or appeal). To exercise those rights, contact [email protected].
6. Data Retention
- Active accounts: we retain account and service data while your account remains active and as needed to provide the service
- After you delete your account: we aim to delete or de-identify primary account data within approximately 30 days, except for the limited records below
Records that may be retained longer:
- legal obligations, lawful requests, or dispute preservation
- security, fraud-prevention, and abuse investigation
- accounting, tax, and subscription or payment records (including records held by Apple or RevenueCat under their policies)
- backup media that expire on a longer rotation schedule before irreversible deletion
- copies already processed by third-party processors under their then-current retention rules — we request deletion where contractually available, and cannot guarantee third-party residual copies disappear on our same clock
When you delete a memory, it is removed from your journal and is no longer used to generate new replies.
If you delete your account and you have shared a partner profile with another user, that shared relationship may transfer to them under the rules shown in the in-app deletion warning. Your private content is deleted; shared content may be anonymized and retained as needed to keep the other user’s journal usable.
7. Age Requirement
Tied Notes is intended only for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly create or maintain accounts for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe someone under 18 has provided data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
8. Changes
We may update this policy. For material changes, we will provide notice in-app and/or by other reasonable means, and the “Last updated” date above will change. Where required by law, we will seek additional consent.
